Lasko 754200 Ceramic Heater

August 24th, 2010 by eanlhoog

Many people in the US who are really concerned about saving the planet are doing away with the traditional roof shingles and other kinds of roofs and replacing them with solar space heating panels. These panels fit quite neatly on the roofs and can be of whichever size you need. For people who are determined on going green, using every erg of energy from unconventional energy resources becomes quite important. That is one of the biggest reasons for the popularity of solar space heaters in US homes.

The basic function of the solar space heaters is to take the energy from the sun and then to direct it inside the home in order to keep the interiors warm. A better efficiency can be obtained by using the solar space heating system in conjunction with radiant heat systems from within the homes such as radiant flooring, fan convector units, high mass systems and forced air furnaces because this will increase the efficiency of the solar space heaters themselves. These devices may be expensive at the outset, but for people who are going green, saving resources becomes the prime concern. In the long run, the savings far outdo the initial expenses.

In the past, attempts to make solar space heaters failed because there was no proper method that could allow their usage in sunless weather. They were also deemed to be redundant in the nighttime. But today, the solar space heaters have mastered the technology of using backup systems which begin functioning if the sun is not available for providing the necessary amount of energy. It is understandable that when the backup system starts functioning, the energy conservation is minimized, but even then homes that have a solar space heating system are able to save up to 70% of the energy that they normally use for heating their homes. This savings also translate to the energy bills that these homes have to pay.

Installation of solar space heating systems within the homes could be very expensive. But they are viable options in the long run, cutting down drastically on the energy bills. After all, when going green, it's saving the planet's resources that matters the most.

The All-New Kindle

August 22nd, 2010 by eanlhoog

Once upon a time, there was a book. You would expect that the story of the Amazon Kindle would begin that way. In part, it does. Where you would expect to find the nemesis, however, you tend to find that the Amazon Kindle has already done away with it. In some Amazon Kindle reviews, some have said that the Amazon Kindle is a boon to the publishing industry, allowing the mass distribution of titles that otherwise might have lain dormant and dusty on shelves in rapidly dying bookstores. The Amazon Kindle, however, rather than replacing traditional books, has filled a market niche that few might have expected. The Amazon Kindle is the perfect travel companion. With the ability to hold thousands of titles at once, it is possible to carry one's entire library with them wherever they go. Perhaps in the future this will become a boon to college students and high school students everywhere- allowing them to lug around a single Amazon Kindle e-book rather than seventy pounds of books on their backs. The news could be crushing to the field of orthopedic medicine!

What the Amazon Kindle does not do, however, is completely replace paper books. It seems that the best way still to amass a library is the preferential way- cover to cover. Will this ever change? That seems unlikely within the foreseeable future. While the Amazon Kindle has all the requisite technology in place- easy to read text, paper-like screen, and incredibly deep memory, as well as the ability to download local and national magazines, newspapers, and even your own word documents from your computer, it still has it's drawbacks. At this time, an Amazon Kindle viewer costs in excess of $359, and includes only a coupon (for a limited time during Christmas 2008) for 100 classic titles, rather than up to date titles. While the offer is in effect a $1000 bonus (with each title retailing for about $10,) You will find that to add even a few up to date titles to your Amazon Kindle will cost you in excess of another hundred dollars. Additionally, there is no backup should your Amazon Kindle get stolen. You would need to repurchase all the titles again electronically, effectively paying double. While this won't be a consideration for those purchasers of the Amazon Kindle who will be using it at home, the real consumers of the Amazon Kindle are travelers. Therein lies the problem- the Amazon Kindle is built specifically for travelers, with no safeguards to keep the traveler's library backed up.

The positives of the Amazon Kindle are numerous, however, and easily can eclipse the potential downfalls of this revolutionary piece of technology. Via On-line purchase, there are in excess of 190,000 titles available for purchase on the Amazon Kindle, including current new releases and classic titles that may not be available in your local bookstore. The Amazon Kindle is also ecologically friendly, making the purchase of weekly news magazines and newspapers practically obsolete. Available magazines for the Amazon Kindle include Time, Atlantic Monthly, and Forbes, and the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post are available newspapers on the Amazon Kindle. While the comics section might be a little less than ideal for other newspapers, the impact on the environment of every American picking up an electronic newspaper is staggering. While the price is still more than just a little out of reach, the Amazon Kindle gives us a promising technology that could make waves in the very near future.

Callaway Ft I Driver

February 23rd, 2010 by eanlhoog

Callaway FT-i Driver by mygolfwholesale

See all

Callaway golf has long been known for its long, forgiving drivers. They started the oversize driver rage in the early 90's with their original Big Bertha driver and have since seen over 10 new drivers come out since then. Over the years, Callaway has gone from simple hickory shafted wedges to some of the most technologically advanced golf equipment on the planet. Callaway has continued its dominance in the mid to high handicap market with its line of drivers, throw in their irons, wedges, and recent purchase of Top Flite and Odyssey Golf, new “players” equipment and a great line of Callaway branded golf balls and you have the makings of a monster that will now be in the forefront of golf technology and design for years to come.

The FT-5 came from two designs actually. The old Callaway C4 driver, a composite driver featured a metal skirting around the perimeter which helped drastically on off center hits. While this driver was extremely accurate, it lacked hitting power due to the softer face material. Callaway has long been known for its long hitting Titanium drivers and the consumer wanted both designers in one! Introduce the Fusion Series beginning with the original ERC Fusion to the FT-I, Callaways high performance drivers have incorporated Fusion Technology. The FT-5 is an update to the popular FT-3 driver.

The FT-5 features a larger head than the original FT-3. Just in the past couple of years Callaway has begun to make their drivers at the maximum 460cc size and the FT-5 is one of them. The advances in technology have allowed the designers at Callaway to “fuse” an entire face area of a Titanium driver to the body similar to the C4. This makes for not only a very forgiving driver, but one that goes long as well! The technology frees almost 50 grams of weight to be distributed to the perimeter to create a high launch low spin driver designed for todays golf balls. Callaway has also incorporated a new feature where this weight is put in the center of the club, to the toe or to the heel. This will created a fade or draw biased head that will be more prone to opening or closing at impact to help reduce or create a different ball flight for the player.

The driver itself looks a little cleaner than the origional FT-3, it was a little longer from front to back that gave it a little more modern shape without going to extremes like the FT-i. When I hit it, boy did it hit hard! The ball went high and straight as advertised and had more carry than any other driver I had tried. I was testing the 9* Stiff version and also got to hit their tour model. The tour model features a higher center of gravity, square to open face with neutral to fade weighting. This allows the better player to work the ball better and really get through the ball without the fear of hitting a big hook! I was able to work the ball with both, but had a better time hitting a draw with the standard version and a better time hitting a fade with the tour version for obvious reasons.

Other than the size however, I did not get any real feedback to say that this is better than the original FT-3. Now, the FT-i is a totally different story, stay tuned for that review!

Callaway Golf and CBS Sports have reached an agreement that establishes the golf equipment manufacturer as a presenting sponsor of Sunday’s Super Bowl Today pregame show. It’s the first time a stand-alone golf manufacturer has purchased such rights.

The 30-minute sponsorship includes a Callaway-themed opening interstitial to introduce the company’s presence, as well as product and branding exposure on the CBS set throughout the show. Phil Mickelson, Callaway’s primary pitchman, is slated to appear in an additional segment to run during the sponsored programming.

Callaway will also use the Super Bowl platform to debut 90 seconds of commercial time that will feature the company’s focus on technological innovation and its 2010 products. Terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

Super Bowl pregame sponsorships are regarded as an aggressive and effective way for marketers to reach a substantial mainstream audience that culminates as the game’s kickoff approaches. Last year’s Super Bowl pregame show drew a Household rating/share of 11.6/24, and featured a viewership of 21 million during the 5:00–5:30 p.m time slot.

“We understand the pent-up desire for cutting-edge products that has been building through the recession as consumer spending declined,” said Jeff Colton, Senior Vice President, U.S., Callaway Golf. “Our 2010 product line featuring Diablo Edge has been generating a great deal of excitement within the golf industry, and we’re looking forward to introducing it to a mainstream audience.”

Used Golf Irons

Golfing - 13 July by Welsh Totty

Because my new golfing philosophy is “practice makes perfect,” I’m finding it difficult to move beyond a particular club until I’m hitting it well.  Over the course of my last two practice sessions, the first in which I was scheduled to work on my three and four irons, I got stuck hitting the four a lot longer than I'd expected.

I’ve always had difficulty hitting these two irons, but being committed to you, my reader, encourages me to consider anything below par as unacceptable.

I wasn’t exactly “duffing it” (a term used to describe a shot that basically bounces its way twenty to thirty yards), but I wasn’t hitting it solidly either.  I was tight and having a hard time finding my physical comfort zone.  There were scattered shots when I did feel loose, but couldn't seem to find a rhythm.

On this note, I had a thought: They say when investing your money in stocks, you should take notes of your emotional state while buying and selling.  That way you avoid forgetting the negative associations and recall the positive ones.

I feel the same methodology applies towards golf.

Next time you hit the range for practice, bring along a note pad to scribble down what works, and for that matter, what doesn’t

Write down body positions when hitting a particular club.  Jot down where in your stance you felt the most comfortable striking your 7-iron as opposed to your 4-iron.  Personally, I began feeling the 4-iron offered the best results when my ball was about two inches behind my front toe. (My 7-iron is best right smack dab in the middle.)

Another mental note I realized: When focusing on hitting a good shot, focus on what you’re doing to focus.  I know that sounds redundant, but basically understand what you’re attempting to accomplish.  That way, when you accomplish it, you can refer to it when you seem to be losing focus on the course.

I had this epiphany while struggling with my 3-iron.  Again, the 3-iron has always been my hardest to strike and this season has been no different.  Except now I was at least hitting it with some regularity, just not quite where I wanted.  So I stepped back and regained my physical and mental composure.

I stood behind the ball, got my intended destination in view, visualized how I wanted the shot to look, took my position, allowed my body to get comfortable while taking notes of what was feeling good (ball one inch off my front toe, weight on my front leg, knees bent, back straight), and then I let it all dissipate as I prepared to hit my shot.

You see, eventually you must let all the preparation go.  At some point, your body must memorize what’s needed to be successful.  I’m sure there are plenty of golfers who remind themselves of what's needed each time they stand over their ball, but feeling comfortable when it matters comes from hours of practice.

For me, this one moment of determined concentration turned out to be successful, but of course it won’t be enough.  I’ll need hours more of the same focus on just my 3-iron alone before I’ll gain perfection on the course.

But for now, hitting a club until it feels comfortable in my hand feels like the right thing to do.  Because truthfully, anything less wouldn’t feel comfortable in my mind.

For next time, it’s on to the driver.

Still, it was clear that his message reached PGA Tour headquarters. The tour released a statement during the third round explaining why the Ping-Eye 2 wedges with square grooves were approved for play.

“Public comments or criticisms characterizing their use as a violation … are inappropriate at best,” the statement said.

Told about the tour's statement, Mickelson paused before saying it was “cool if they put that out there.”

“Again, everybody has their opinions and so forth, and it's healthy to talk about it,” he said. “But when you cross that line and slander someone publicly, that's when the tour needs to step in – or someone else.”

McCarron, who missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, could not be reached for comment. He did not back off his criticism Friday of Mickelson using the wedges, although he used “bending the rules” instead of “cheating” in his comments.

He maintains that Mickelson, and others using the Ping wedges, are violating the spirit of the new rule.

Mickelson has been feuding with the USGA, in particular senior technical director Dick Rugge, since last summer when it became clear the new grooves would be effective this year.

He said he was not even certain that 20-year-old wedges spun the ball more than his new wedges, yet offered no apologies because the clubs are approved for play.

“I understand black and white,” Mickelson said Friday. “And I think that myself or any other player is allowed to play those clubs because they're approved – end of story.”

Instead, the story might just now be starting.

McCarron, who is on the 16-man Players Advisory Council, said the wedges would be discussed Tuesday at a PAC meeting in Los Angeles with PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem.
